A frequent and knowledgeable poster on a Forum I am a member of recently posted this on the board. I loved it so much I wanted to reprint it here. (p.s. thanks Moffie!)
My father asked me if I am gay.
I said, "Does it matter?"
He said, No, not really.
I told him Yes
He said, Get out of my life!
I guess it mattered.
My boss asked me if I am Gay.
I said, Does it matter?
He said, No, not really.
I told him, Yes.
He said, You are fired!
I guess it mattered.
My friend asked me if I am Gay.
I said, Does it matter?
He said, No not really.
I told him, Yes
He said, Don't call me your friend!
I guess it mattered.
My lover asked me, Do you love me?
I said, Does it matter?
He said, Yes
I told him, I love you so much!
He said, Let me hold you in my arms.
For the first time in my life,
Something matters.
My God/dess asked me, Do you love yourself?
I said, Does it matter?
They said, Yes
I asked, How can I love myself?, I am Gay?
They said, That is the way we made you.
NOTHING AGAIN WILL EVER MATTER!

The sad part it that it is so close to the truth these days...no one wants to know us for who we are, just for the labels society assigns us.
